VP of Legal

Summary
Primarily responsible for directing areas of the legal function of the Company and will serve as the primary point person for day-to-day matters including, but not limited to, commercial contracts, regulatory compliance, management advice and counsel, as well as, litigation management. Responsibilities include monitoring business policies and practices to ensure best practices, client services and cost efficiencies are achieved. This individual will work in direct coordination with the General Counsel in managing the overall legal function. The Vice President of Legal should be upwardly mobile in their career and be on track to grow and assume additional responsibilities.
Required Education and Experience



  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school

  • A minimum of 7 years of legal experience gained through a combination of law firm and in-house experience, with experience in guiding business leaders and managing other counsel

  • Current license to practice law in at least one state with a willingness to obtain Illinois license

  • Experience in dealing with industry specific regulations and administrative agencies

  • Experience with compliance-related issues and demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and enforce compliance and legal policies and procedures

  • Experience effectively developing and implementing strategy, in partnership with outside counsel as appropriate, to address legal issues

  • Must be able to skillfully articulate legal positions and strategies concisely and quickly, in a manner that is useful and easily understood by business operators, managers and clients

  • Must possess mathematical aptitude and skills

  • Proven experience working collaboratively, improving productivity, making recommendations and implementing process improvements

  • Sound technical skills, analytical ability, good judgment and strong operational focus

  • Strong, pragmatic business acumen with the ability to recognize the business consequences of legal advice

  • Must be a strategic and innovative thinker who can develop and articulate a clear understanding of the organization?s strategy from all perspectives and find creative solutions to complex legal problems

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point)


Preferred Education and Experience



  • 7 or more years of legal experience gained through a combination of law firm and inhouse experience, with experience in guiding business leaders and managing other counsel

  • 5 or more years of leadership, management and supervisory experience with increasing responsibilities

  • 2 or more years of experience in project management

  • Experience managing a litigation budget


Supervisory Responsibility



  • 1 ? 3 direct reports that may expand with development and departmental growth


Travel



  • Up to 15%

  • All non-travel time spent in the corporate Warrenville, IL office


 

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
