Senior Income Tax Specialist

Available Position and Description:

We have an immediate opening for a Full-Time, Senior-level Income Tax Specialist (emphasis on business taxes).

We seek an experienced Public Accountant who is highly competent in business tax and business accounting (primary over individual tax/accounting skills). We require prior experience in public accounting (preferably within a small business setting) and the capacity to flourish within a dynamic and very fast-paced environment.

The office is busy year-round, and with a significantly higher volume during tax season, a strong work ethic and a dedication to completing files without sacrificing the required level of accuracy are essential.

The successful candidate will have the ability to see and understand/utilize our procedures and technology quickly (especially UltraTax software) and handle all facets of public accounting without supervisor review. This position reports to the Warrenville office.


Required Experience:

A minimum of 3 years experience in income taxes is are required; a strong background within the Public Accounting arena is highly preferred. Applications indicating experience in Tax Accounting and Income Taxes will also be considered.

Experience within a small business environment is a significant plus.


Required Competencies:

Complete a tax return for small businesses (primary) and individuals (secondary) from start to finish, with the required knowledge, skills and abilities to tackle the most basic to very complex.

Process State returns/Trust/Estate returns

Correspond appropriately with the IRS & State services

Review notices, General Accounting, Preparation of Financial Statements, GL, Bank reconciliations

Payroll Preparation, Earnings Reports, Payroll taxes, Sales Taxes, Depreciation Entries, Adjusting & Closing Journal Entries.


Required Skills:

Excellent organizational and time management skills; attention to detail; skills in research and analysis

Demonstrated skills in the effective management of processes, to support a cohesive and effective team environment within an efficient accounting department.

Excellent oral and written communication skills

Computer proficiency in Accounting Software (UltraTax is highly preferred) as well as in QuickBooks Pro, Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Required Education:

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting/Finance with an Accounting emphasis; CPA Designation is a significant plus

During the off-season, hours are normally 40 (Monday-Friday), but they can exceed 40 when needed to meet deadlines and manage heavy workloads. Longer work hours and workweeks are as a rule required during tax season (evenings and Saturdays) to effectively manage the volume while maintaining our high level of quality in the services we provide.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
